Smith throws six strong but Bisons fall to Tulane 7-4

The Lipscomb Baseball team continued to search for their first win of the season tonight at Tulane University but fell short once again.
Despite the strong pitching arm of senior Josh Smith, the Bisons fell 7-4 to the Green Wave of Tulane.
Although it started off a much closer game than the team saw last weekend, Tulane added on to their 3-0 lead as they tacked on two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth that would hold off the Bisons for the first game of the three game series.
Smith gave the Bisons a chance through the first six innings, giving up only three runs on seven hits. He struck out seven and walked five.
Sophomore Josh Cotham went to the mound for the Bisons in the seventh and gave up four runs on three hits, striking out two in two innings.
Even with a strong pitching performance, the offensive continued to be the struggling factor for the team, getting only three hits in the first eight innings.
Although down by seven, the Bisons proved they weren’t dead. Freshman Ricky Coleman started off the ninth inning as he reached on an error to the third baseman. Kyle Henry was then hit by a pitch and Cory Hale walked to load the bases for senior Ryan Wilkins, who was also hit by a pitch and brought in the first run of the night.
After a pitching change by Tulane, Andrew Nickerson singled to left field, bringing in the second run of the night for the Bisons. Logan Hostettler then grounded into a double play as the Bisons added on another run.
Freshman Lee Wilson then came up with his second hit of the night, bringing the Bisons within three, but that’s as close as they would get, finalizing the score at 7-4.
The Bisons finished with a total of five hits on the night to Tulane’s 10.
Lipscomb will get their next shot at Tulane tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. and then again Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
