2/28/2010 - Baseball
Baseball Gets Closer to First Win
After dropping the first two games of the series to Tulane in New Orleans, the Bisons came out scoring in the first inning of today’s game. Unfortunately, two runs in the first would not be enough to defeat the Green Wave.

Ahead 2-0 through five and a half innings, the Bisons got closer and closer to their first win of the season.

Tulane fought back in the sixth inning, getting two runs, only one earned, off Lipscomb starter Davey Hackett. Those were the only runs given up by Hackett, as he gave up seven hits and struck out two.

Dannie Strable replaced Hackett for the Bisons and closed out the bottom of the sixth tied 2-2.

Tulane struck again in the seventh inning and took the lead for the first time all game, 3-2.

Chad Fromm came in for the Bisons in the middle of the seventh and would hold Tulane though the bottom of the eighth.

Lipscomb, eager to push the game into the bottom of the ninth for the first time all weekend, used a walk by M.L. Williams, a sacrifice bunt from Antonio Butler, and a single from Lee Wilson to tie the game up 3-2.

Unluckily for the Bisons, Tulane’s Matt Ryan walked with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to finalize the game 4-3.

The Bisons combined for nine hits on the day. Freshman Lee Wilson went 3-5 with two stolen bases and two RBIs. Zach Messer was 2-4. Tyler Wilson, Andrew Nickerson, Ryan Wilkins, and Butler each added a hit.

The Bisons are now 0-6 at the start of their season. They next play at UT-Martin on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
