The Lipscomb Bisons fell 15-6 and 6-3 Saturday to East Tennessee State in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader at Ken Dugan Field
at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.
In game one the Bisons led 2-1 after three innings, but an eight-run fourth sparked East Tennessee State to a 15-6 win in game one. Game two was a similar scenario with the Bisons leading 3-1 after three innings before ETSU scored four runs in the fourth.
The 15 runs allowed ties the season set March 6 against Middle Tennessee State.
Left-hander Alex Ross made his second start of the season for the Bisons. He lasted three innings and left after allowing seven runs and five runs, all earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out one. He was credited with the loss, falling to 1-2.
Right-hander Matt Bowling pitched one-third of an inning in relief. He gave up three hits and four runs, all earned. Right-hander Dannie Strable threw one inning and gave up two hits and three runs, two earned. He also walked two batters.
Right-hander Chad Fromm threw 2.2 innings. He held ETSU to one hit and one run, unearned. He walked one and struck out three. Left-hander Blake Fonfara closed out the game with three hits and two runs in two innings.
Lee Wilson led the Bisons with three hits. No Bisons player had a hit for extra bases. Zach Messer continued to drive in runs with two. Cory Hale, back in action after missing the game with ETSU Friday night, was back in action and also had two RBI. Tyler Wilson and Andrew Nickerson also had two hits as the Bisons finished with 11 for the game.
Lee Wilson extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games. He also had his 10th multi-hit game, tops on the team. It was the third time this season he has connected for three hits in a game.
In game two ETSU opened with a run in the second. The Bisons scored three in third. But ETSU added four in the fourth to over the game. They added one more in the seventh.
Right-hander Davey Hackett pitched seven innings for the Bisons. He gave up seven hits and six runs, all earned. He walked three and struck out nine.
Right-hander Chad Fromm closed out the game. He did not allow a hit or a run in two innings. He struck out three.
The Bisons had six hits, four of them for extra bases. Messer and Hale each had triples. Wilkins and Henry both slammed doubles.
Messer’s three RBI in game two marked the seventh time this season he has driven in two or more runs in a game. The Bisons travel to Murfreesboro Wednesday to play Middle Tennessee State at 6.
